Remarks from the Executive Director
As we conclude another transformative year at Sky Initiative, I am honored to reflect on the progress, lessons learned, and impact achieved through the collaborative efforts of our team, partners, and the young individuals we serve. This year stands as a testament to the possibilities that arise when communities unite around a shared purpose: ensuring that every young person, regardless of background or circumstance, has the opportunity to learn, thrive, and shape their own future.
In a context where many young people continue to face barriers to education, employment, and dignity, our commitment has remained steadfast. Through our three flagship programs—the Green Life Project, Sky Club Uganda, and Sky Girl—we have consistently opened doors to opportunity, restored hope, and strengthened resilience within communities across Uganda.
The Green Life Project has empowered youth with climate-smart agricultural skills, enabling them to adapt to a rapidly changing environment while contributing to food security in their schools and homes. Sky Club Uganda has harnessed the power of sports to keep children engaged in school, foster discipline, and cultivate leadership qualities. With the Sky Girl program, we have ensured that no girl misses school due to menstruation by providing reusable sanitary pads, menstrual health education, and a safe, supportive environment for girls to grow with confidence.
Our achievements this year are not solely the result of well-executed activities; they are the product of belief; belief from our partners who embraced our vision, from teachers and community leaders who welcomed us into their schools and homes, and, most importantly, from the young people who chose to participate, learn, and dream once again.
We acknowledge that our journey has not been without challenges, including resource constraints, climate realities, and the ongoing socio-economic vulnerabilities affecting families' support to their children. However, each challenge has fortified our resolve and refined our strategies for sustainability. We have learned the value of innovation, community ownership, and youth-led action: principles that will continue to guide our efforts.
Looking ahead, Sky Initiative is entering a new era of growth. Our 2030 Strategic Vision places young people at the heart of environmental resilience, social inclusion, and economic opportunity. With the right partnerships, we aim to scale our programs, reach more schools, empower more girls, and equip more youth with the tools necessary to build sustainable, dignified lives.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our partners—including the European Union under the Youth Empowerment Fund, The Huracan Foundation and the Bevisioneer Fellowship program who contributed to our success this year. Your support has shaped dreams, restored confidence, and transformed lives.
As we embark on the upcoming year, we remain guided by a fundamental belief: young people are not merely beneficiaries; they are the solution.
Thank you for accompanying us on this journey. Together, we will continue to forge a future where every young person rises.
