ABOUT US
Youth founded action towards improving lives and making communities rise through education and skills development

Who we Are
Sky Initiative is a registered Community-Based Organization under the NGOs Act, 2016 (Reg. No. KYG/938/23). Founded in 2022 and officially formalized in March 2023, we are committed to transforming lives through education, skills development, and empowerment. At the heart of our work is a simple but powerful belief: when children complete school, when youth are equipped with skills, and when women are empowered - entire communities rise.

Our Story, the Name Behind the Vision
The name “Sky Initiative” finds its origin in the “Sky Girl Initiative.” This name was inspired by the story of a young girl at Nabuganyi C/U Primary School who, while in Primary Three, experienced her first menstrual period in class. Lacking menstrual hygiene support and knowledge, she was met with stigma and ridicule. Shamed and humiliated, she dropped out of school, her dreams cut short.
Her story became a call to action. She was named “SkyGirl” as a symbol of resilience, and the initiative was founded to ensurethat no child is forced to leave school because of natural, preventable, or stigmatized challenges.
As our vision expanded beyond menstrual health toaddress the broader challenges of child education, the name evolved to “SkyInitiative” reflecting our commitment to tackle all the barriers, across genders, that prevent children and young people from reaching their full potential. Just as the sky is vast and limitless, so too are the possibilities for the futures we help build.

The Challenge We Address
Uganda faces a crisis in education. Over 64% of children who enroll in Primary One do not complete Primary Seven, and of those who complete primary school, only 20% transition to secondary education. These numbers represent more than statistics - they are lost dreams, wasted potential, and futures cut short.
The reasons are many: period poverty, child hunger, early pregnancy, limited access to learning materials, weak school support systems, social stigma, and lack of mentorship. The result is a generation of young people deprived of the knowledge, confidence, and skills they need to shape their societies and contribute to sustainable development.

Our Mission and Focus
Sky Initiative exists to change this reality. We empower communities to become part of the solution, designing programs and projects that:
- Keep children in school by addressing barriers to enrolment, retention, andlearning.
- Equip young people with practical skills so they can thrive beyond the classroom.
- Support women and young mothers with opportunities for education, empowerment, and leadership.
- Strengthen communities and schools to take sustainable actions towards addressingeducation challenges and lack of skills.

Our Vision
We envision a future where every child has the chance to complete school, every youth is equipped with the skills to build a dignified life, and every woman has the opportunity to uplift her family and community.
Because when children learn, when youth are empowered, and when womenrise; the whole community transforms.
