HEADTEACHER ENGAGEMENT

Kyayaye RC Primary school

Today, our Leaders had an engagement with the Headteacher of Kyayaye RC Primary School and other Fellows from
other schools in Busaana Sub County Kayunga District during the
Community of Practice Fellows' event of the Teach For Uganda fellowship. We were as well able to follow up a prior findings of a
research on menstrual hygiene management (MHM) in the school and
requested for the school to accept the Sky Girl club program in the
school as an intervention plan to provide trainings on MHM, skills of
making reusable sanitary pads, making pads for all girls at the school,
advocacy and campaign for clean and stigma-free menstrual period.
By this engagement, the Administration of the school agreed and okayed
implementation of the Sky Girl Club in the school to improve MHM
practices including provision of access to safe, reliable, affordable
and reusable sanitary pads among the learners, school and the entire
community of Kyayaye.
According to the Head teacher, majority of the girls take menstrual period as a break holiday to stay at home as
they manage their menstrual hygiene period due to lack of clean sanitary
materials for use and fear of stigma.
Kyayaye RC Primary School becomes the 5th School of implementation of the Sky Girl Club in Busaana Sub County which has agreed and pledged support for the program to
ensure that all young girls at school get access to self-made and safe
reusable sanitary pads, training, advocacy and campaigns for
stigma-free, clean WASH facilities and changing rooms in the school.
